On this page, we're going to cover everything you need to know about flow rope measurement. You're probably wondering, "how long or short should my flow rope be?" or better yet, "how are Slushropes flow ropes measured?"
Whatever your question is, don't worry. We've got you covered!
Here are the basics!
-
"How are Slushropes flow ropes measured?" - They are measured as the entire length, from one end to the other. Do note that the "tail" of the handle as seen on a regular style flow rope is not counted in measurement. A regular style flow rope is where the flow rope features a knotted handle.
-
"What is your recommended length?" - The most popular and favored length for most people is the "8 FT Regular Length". If you are approx. 5 FT 9 IN (or 175 CM) or taller, it is best to start with a 9 FT Length.
-
"How Do I Know What Length is Best For Me? - If you currently do not own a flow rope, your best choice is to choose between an 8 FT Length or a 9 FT Length as recommended on Number 2. When you finally have your first rope, it is MUCH easier to be exact with what you want out of a rope. Owning a flow rope gives you a point of reference such as "I want to go shorter, longer, thicker, or thinner."
- "I don't know if I should go for an 8 FT or 9 FT rope. Can you help?" - If you are in between sizes AND you expect this to be your first flow rope, it is always recommended to go for the longer length. A longer rope can be shortened via a knot, however you cannot make the rope longer than it is. Slushropes emphasizes that your first flow rope gives you a point of reference for future ropes. Your experience will ultimately shape your opinion throughout time!
-
"What lengths do you offer?" - Slushropes stocks 8 FT Regular Length. In addition, Slushropes is PROUD to offer FREE CUSTOM LENGTH services to the community with 7 FT, 7.5 FT, 8.5 FT, and 9.5 FT in addition to the regular 8 FT.
How To Properly Measure Your Slushropes Flow Rope:
-
Your Slushropes flow rope will show the most accurate measurement when
- Measured brand new
- Measured under fair tension (remember, your flow rope has been coiled in packaging. Adding tension back pulls the rope back to its measurement).
-
Why Your Slushropes flow rope may NOT show accurate measurement
- The rope is brand new, but you have not applied fair tension. (The rope is not fully straightened out when measured etc.)
- Your flow rope has experienced slight shrinkage throughout its lifetime.
- Don't worry - this is an absolute normal part of a rope's life cycle.
- The amount of shrinkage typically does not exceed 10% of its entire length.
What Contributes to Rope Shrinkage:
- Before you panic, please be advices that rope shrinkage typically does not exceed 10% of its length if maintained properly.
- In addition, rope shrinkage is a normal part of ANY rope's life cycle. Any rope that is made out of synethic fibers is always subject to a slight shrinkage.
- Improper storage, dirt build up, water exposure (including snow), and prolonged direct sunlight exposure all contribute to a rope's shrinkage (to name a few).
- In order to protect your rope, it is always advised that your flow rope is kept dry and stored properly in a bag.
- When your ropes get wet, your flow rope is subject to shrinkage.
- Shrinkage shows differently in every flow rope as it depends on every material.
